The 2008 Robert Trudell Public Library Education LARC Scholarship Award

Robert Trudell (1930-2006) was a life-long public librarian. After beginning in libraries in his native Buffalo area, he went on to successively serve as the Director of the Olean Public Library, the Harborfields Public Library and finally at the Greenburgh Public Library in Westchester County. Once his early "retirement" became boring, Bob came back to work as a Reference Librarian in The Nyack Library. Always a distinguished professional throughout his long career, he endeared himself to staff and public alike at each of his workplaces. He was an accomplished poet and a genuine humanitarian. Bob was a past president of the New York Library Association, and received NYLA's Intellectual Freedom Award in 1984.

Scholarship Awards will be given annually through several library associations until the fund is depleted. The family has designated a selection committee for awarding the scholarship. The Fund was established entirely through the donations of friends and family of Bob Trudell. Awards will be given to a candidate who has demonstrated an interest in working in a Public Library by pursuing a Master's degree in Library and Information Science and who meets the criteria for entrance into an ALA accredited school or is already enrolled in an ALA approved MLS program.

The winner of the Award will be given a monetary stipend of $ 800.00.

The recipient of the Scholarship must accept the award in person at an event designated each year for the presentation of awards.

The candidate must:

• Possess a BA or BS degree
• Be a resident or recent resident of Rockland County
• Desire to undertake a career in a public library
• Submit a completed three-part application: Parts I, IIB, and III
